What is the news?
San Francisco-headquartered voice AI startup Wispr Flow has officially reached unicorn status, securing $280 million in a Series B funding round that values the company at $2 billion. Led by Menlo Ventures, the funding saw participation from new investors including Peak XV, Acrew, Forerunner, and Goodwater, along with existing backers such as Notable Capital, NEA, Neo Ventures, and 8VC. This mega-round represents a nearly threefold increase from its $700 million valuation a year ago, bringing total funding raised to $361 million.
Why is it interesting?
Co-founded by Indian-origin entrepreneur Tanay Kothari, Wispr Flow creates advanced AI-powered speech-to-text tools allowing professionals to write, draft, and perform complex workplace actions using natural voice commands. Currently trusted by over 10,000 businesses globally, the company recently highlighted India as its second-largest market worldwide for both user growth and paid subscriptions.
The fresh infusion of capital will be used to expand Wispr Flow’s speech AI capabilities beyond voice dictation into automated meeting notes and workflow automation tools. The company is also doubling down on its proprietary speech recognition architecture, Canto, which delivers superior accuracy in challenging acoustic environments.
